Ribbon Ruffled Pumpkins

This post was featured on What's Cooking, Love?

Ribbon.....{squeal}.....is my favorite craft supply as of late.  Next to my hot glue gun, ribbon is one thing that is my "go to" craft supply.  It honestly looks impressive, but it does take some time.  Making any sort of centerpiece or topiary with ribbon isn't hard at all, just somewhat time consuming.

These ribbon pumpkins have received some "oooohs" and "aaahhhs" from guests we've had in our living room so far this fall season.  I know that I'll be sad to see fall come to an end because I'll have to pack them away for next year.  With styrofoam balls coming in so many different sizes, and ribbon in different widths, you can really customize these easily to fit any space in your home or to add some cute decor on a shelf or mantel that could use a little freshening up.

Supplies:
*Rolls of grosgrain ribbon
*Extra long stick pins
*T-pins
*Styrofoam balls {I used the large ones}
*Spray paint
*Toilet paper or paper towel roll, cut in half
*Burlap

Directions:
1.  Spray paint the styrofoam ball orange and allow it to dry completely.  Using a serrated knife, cut off a portion of the bottom of the ball to make it sit flat.
2.  Secure the end of your ribbon with two stick pins.
3.  Unroll the ribbon several inches. Loosely fold it halfway up, sort of like an inchworm, and secure it with pins.  Continue this all the way down the side of your styrofoam ball, securing each "ruffle" with two stick pins.  You don't cut the ribbon at all, until you get to the bottom.

4.  Once you reach the bottom of the ball, snip off the ribbon and start the process over again until the "pumpkin" is covered in ribbon "ruffles".
5.  Wrap the portion of the paper towel or toilet paper roll in a small piece of burlap.  Use hot glue to secure the burlap to the roll.  Make sure a little bit hangs off the end of the roll.  Use T-pins to pin the burlap edges into the styrofoam ball.
