Recently, my parents treated the five of us to a ride on the Polar Express. It was SO festive and fun!It took place along the Cuyahoga Railroad in Northeast Ohio. This is a real working train depot, and over certain seasons they have special events like the Polar Express. I posted on the My Favorite Finds Facebook page that we were going to enjoy the Polar Express, and some of you mentioned that it seemed fun or that you wish you had one close to you. So, I wanted to share with you our ride on the Polar Express.
We dressed our youngest in her jammies……the twins felt a little too old to wear their pjs. And of course brought along a copy of the Polar Express book to have onboard. Our train didn’t depart until 7 pm, but they began boarding at 6 pm. Since we wanted to assure that we all would sit together, we were ready to board at 6. We had tickets for one of the dining cars, which was so nice! We were able to sit across from each other, and the kids could draw or color while we were waiting. Our car had three elves on it. They were so cute! And the best thing, they were volunteers. Two were teenage girls, and one was an older lady who read the story while we rode along to the North Pole.
Our journey to the North Pole was an hour train ride. While we rode, one of the elves read the story of the Polar Express. Of course, Natalie followed along in her book. They also had nice canvases painted with different scenes from the story. And they walked along the aisle to show the illustrations as the elf read. After the story, they brought us cookies and hot chocolate in nice souvenir mugs. Of course the kids loved that! For the remainder of our ride to the North Pole, the elves lead us in Christmas carols, and came around to each table to visit with the kids.
Soon, we were at the North Pole. We didn’t disembark the train here, instead we watched all the festivities from the windows. We parked on the train tracks. Outside our window, was a very lit up, festive and Christmasy North Pole! There were elves waving at us, blowing bubbles, doing gymnastics, and other tricks. It was “snowing”, and Santa and Mrs. Clause drove by on their own North Pole Polar Express. So cute!!!
We made our way back to our point of departure. Along the way, Santa and Mrs. Clause boarded the train, and went from car to car to greet the children and allowed parents to take pictures. Our kids loved it….and even the boys who thought they were too old to ride the Polar Express enjoyed the interaction from Santa Clause!
