Our family has undergone a bit of a lifestyle change these past few weeks. Instead of going back to work at the library, I have decided to stay home and work on my travel business. For me, that means a lot of sitting during the day. I NEED to get up and move around, otherwise I feel blah. Not only that, but I need to be making healthy choices and I need to be aware of my own wellness so I can be an example to our kiddos. Working from home is a blessing, for sure. But it is also hard to balance both working at home and spending time with my family. So, we have been trying to get out more and enjoy the nice weather and our local area.
We are blessed to live in a city with very nice parks, and a 6 mile trail. Two of the trail heads end up very close to our house, so there really is no excuse for not using them. We’ve biked the whole trail a few times, and walked parts of it as well. We also live close to some nice apple orchards and pumpkin farms, which are great for getting the whole family up and walking around! We recently visited a local apple orchard to pick some apples. I realized that while we were out there having fun and enjoying the weather, we were also getting a nice walk in as we walked all around the grounds. After thinking about how our family likes to get out and enjoy our local spots, and that it was good for our health, I thought that maybe tracking this activity was a good idea.
I have been a member of the Balance Rewards Program at Walgreens. I joined because I wanted store discounts, and all those fun perks that come with having a store card. But did you know it is perfect for tracking the healthy choices we make and I earn rewards for doing so? I downloaded the Walgreens App on my phone, which makes it even easier to track my exercise, water intake, and more! After I have entered my walking, I am rewarded with points. I have my phone with me almost all the time anyway, and the Walgreens App makes it so easy! Every so often, I also like to use the Couch25K app. As soon as I get back from a run, I open the Walgreens App and record my distance and my time.
Getting fit in our city and being rewarded for it is awesome! When I go to Walgreens to purchase health and beauty products, or even fun Disney items for my clients, it’s nice to arrive at the register and see I have coupons to use. Every $1 on health and beauty purchases earns me 50 points this fall! So not only am I earning points through recording healthy choices and exercise, but also through shopping at Walgreens. Did you know you can also earn rewards for healthy choices? And, even cooler-you can connect any fitness device you have?
How does your family get out and enjoy your city-and stay fit doing so? I’d love to hear about it!
