Link Parties {My Thoughts}

Let me start this post by saying I am by no means a blogging expert.  I haven’t even reached 500 followers on ANY following…yet.  But, something is on my mind that I want to share…..link parties.  As I was revamping a page to add to my tabs that shows the link parties I participate in each week, some thoughts came to my mind.

1.  Why link up?  Mainly to get your blog out there.  I want to share my ideas with others, and yes a few more page views here and there is nice.  But, I genuinely link up to share my ideas with others.

2.  Choosing the right link party.  This could be a whole post in and of itself.  I honestly don’t know how to choose.  I for sure link up to my “bloggy friends” who have been faithful with linking to Must Try Monday {the blog party I host here each week}, or who I have gotten a good feeling about from their blogs.  I also tend to choose the “smaller” bloggers and blog parties.

3.  To follow or not to follow….that is the question.  That is part of the reason why I don’t “require” you to be a follower of My Favorite Finds to link up to Must Try Monday.  I feel like if I want to follow your blog, I will.  I only follow blogs, no matter what the following avenue is, if I genuinely like them and their material.  Honestly, I’ve linked up to others without following them.  Then, I kinda feel guilty about it and I stop linking up or I explore their blog enough to decide if I really want to follow or not.

4.  Leaving a text link in your post.  I’m up in the air about this one.  When I put up the “rules” for Must Try Monday, I do ask that a text link to My Favorite Finds is in the post.  The majority of the time, in visiting the links, I don’t see this text link back.  It doesn’t usually bother me.  It’s not like I delete the link if there’s not a text link back to me.  I don’t like my posts being cluttered with a huge list of blogs I have linked to, so that’s why I made the “Link Parties” page.  From now on, at the end of my posts, I’m going to link to that page.

There, that’s it.  My thoughts on link parties.  Take it or leave it.  But I really felt like I needed to put my thoughts out there.

  1. I tried linking up at super well know link parties in the beginning, but I feel like I just get lost. I only really notice the links a few rows on either side of me. 800 posts is just too many to choose from and drown in. I mean good for these gals for the following, but I get over whelmed. I like my parties 200 to 300 or less.

    I'm totally with you on sharing with smaller bloggers, we all started somewhere, right? I keep a running list of the blogs I link with so I don't have to follow them per say but I can come by every week to share and see what's being shared. I edit as I go. Adding new parties I found and liked, and removing parties that get too big for me or that I have trouble linking with.

    I'm totally sharing this post on FB when I'm home from work.

  2. Hey
    Link Parties {My Thoughts}
    This is a kind of just an exceedingly nicely structured posting. A lot of gratitude is forwarded to the writer!

  3. It's funny that that this was your most recent post because I was going to write you to tell you that you were one of the first lint parties I entered and one of the first to feature me! And believe me, I was so excited! It's definitely a motivation to be recognized like that so I truly appreciate your awesome hosting ;) Sooo, I am nominating you for The One Lovely Blog Award and The Very Inspiring Blogger Award!

  4. I understand your guilt for not following…I get that too. I have following me as a rule for my party and I've been thinking about changing it for that very reason. I don't always follow the party I link up to because I just follow so many blogs that I feel alot of blogs get lost in the sea.
    I'm finding the best way to forge relationships online is to visit regular posts and leaving comments and connecting through FB & Twitter.

    Fantastic post!!!

  5. I love this post!! Link parties are so interesting. They really work to grow a blog, but can be super duper overwhelming trying to follow all of the different rules, etc. Plus my google reader is inundated with blogs I hardly read, but originally followed for the link parties

  6. Carrie,
    This is a great post! I agree with the following of the smaller blogs too. I have linked up to several that I don't feel even recognize me as a fellow blogger. As a fellow host I always get to each blog and actually read the post they link up (sometimes at the last minute lol) but I appreciate each and every blogger that links to my parties. I feel this is true with some of the parties I participate in but not all. I love Bloglovin' for my daily feed on the blogs I truly feel like following. At first I would kinda get my feelings hurt for not seeing a back link on posts where I would see some of the other major blogs posted as a link up but then I decided not to let it bother me because the blogging friends I have made actually take the time to send emails and comment. Hope you have a wonderful day and keep hosting link parties :)
