Easy Family Command Center
categories: My Favorites
Am I looking forward to school starting? Absolutely not! I love being home with the kiddos in the summer, and back to school is an emotional time for me! I'm not the mom who skips out of the school building....I'm usually wiping some tears and trying to focus my mind on other things than my kiddos growing up!
The one thing I do enjoy about back to school time is the routine and organization that comes along with it. So, I rounded up an old 18x24 poster frame I had in the basement and made a family command center to hang on the inside of our pantry door. I glued some scrapbook paper, offset, on the cardboard backing of the frame.
Next, I put the frame together, and on the outside I placed a piece of dry erase vinyl and a piece of chalkboard vinyl that I had from Pick Your Plum. Hey, if I'm gonna order the stuff, I need to use it, right?! I adhered these to the outside of the acrylic. That way I can write on them without having to take the thing apart. I also considered just using the acrylic as a dry erase area, but I was afraid that after time, the surface would be stained.
The chalkboard vinyl is where I am writing the responsibilities for each of my sons for the week. The dry erase vinyl is where we will make our list of things to pick up from the store. The top right section is blank.....I'm thinking of writing a weekly Bible verse or quote on that part. And the bottom left, I hot glued some mini clothespins on it. I will hang school papers, coupons, a baggy for Box Tops, etc. on these. To hang it on the door, I used Command Strips.
And that's it! I can't wait to start using it. It's funny how you can turn everyday items laying around your house into something functional for your family!
How do you get organized for back to school?
