Hi! It’s Jilly. All this snow has me dreaming of warmer climates! Come with me to La Jolla, California- today’s City Spotlight!
La Jolla (pronounced HOY-ah) is a fun town just north of San Diego. My hubby and I were able to visit a few years ago, and we had SO much fun!
After taking the short and beautiful drive up I-5 from San Diego, we stopped at the Birch Aquarium. They have great hands-on exhibits, and a beautiful ocean view from the hill the aquarium is built on. (I guess we like to visit aquariums on vacation, like our recent trip to Chicago when we went to Shedd Aquarium.)
Next, we took a walk on Shell Beach. The whole beach is made up of tiny shells that have washed up on the shore. It was fun to explore the tide pools. Go during low tide, so you can see the most creatures! You can find a tide chart here.
Shell Beach is right next to The Cove, where we went snorkeling. We saw so many great fish, including the Garibaldi fish that The Cove is famous for. There is also a bathroom, a big grassy area, picnic spots, and paved walkways, perfect for enjoying the coast. Nearby is the Children’s Pool, where seals are known to gather.
After all of our tide pool exploring and snorkeling we were famished, so we asked a local where we should go to eat, and he enthusiastically suggested El Pescador Fish Market. Boy, was he right! The food was SO yummy, and the prices were decent, too. It wasn’t very far from The Cove, either. When you’re on vacation, always ask the locals where to go. They’ll give you the best answers!

We had the best time on our little trip to La Jolla! You should definitely visit if you ever get a chance!
