Must Try Monday {Peanut Blossoms}
categories: My Favorites
I decided to take a day of silence Monday and Tuesday, and not post Must Try Monday. But, here we are today! And I'm sharing my FAVORITE Christmas cookie recipe with you today! Peanut Blossoms!
Every year, we look forward to making fancier, more detailed cookies at Christmas. One of my favorites is Peanut Blossoms. My grandma makes these every year too,and they have come to be a favorite of my husband and our boys. One of the secrets is to put the Hershey Kiss on RIGHT when they come out of the oven-the cookies is still soft, so it just sinks right in. Also, I like to dress up the cookie with red and green sugars before putting them in the oven. Yum!
Ingredients:
Oven: 350, Yield: about 54 cookies
1/2 c shortening
1/2 c peanut butter
1/2 c granulated sugar
1/2 c packed brown sugar
1 t baking powder
1/8 t baking soda
1 egg
2 T milk
1 t vanilla
1 3/4 c all purpose flour
Hershey's kisses
Additional sugar or colored sprinkles to roll the dough in
1. Beat shortening and peanut butter with an electric mixer for 30 seconds. Add the 1/2 c sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, and baking soda. Beat until combined, scraping bowl. Beat in egg, milk, and vanilla. Beat in as much as the flour as you can. Stir in any remaining flour.
2. Shape dough into balls-about 2 inches. Roll balls in sugar or colored sprinkles. Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 10-12 minutes or until edges are firm and bottoms are lightly browned. Immediately press a chocolate kiss into each cookie's center. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool.
Do you make the same cookie recipes every Christmas? Or always your {favorites}?
