Back to school is cause for celebration, right?  I am that mom who cries the days leading up to the First Day of School.  My babies are growing up, my house will be quiet and empty, and I’m sending my children into the care of someone else for the majority of the day!  So, Back to School is an emotional time for me.  I want my three children to see it as a celebration.  A celebration and excitement that something new is coming.

DIY First Day of School Sign

IMG_9505

One of the things I like about back to school time is seeing all the cute pictures on Facebook.   If you are like most parents, you are on the front porch, or in the yard at your typical photo spot, snapping away on the First Day of School.  This year, we have a new twist to back to school in our house…..my daughter is starting Kindergarten.  If this To My Fellow Moms on the First Day of Kindergarten doesn’t just make you cry like a baby….and speaking of a baby, I am sending my baby to Kindergarten……nothing will.

Every year for my daughter’s birthday, we have a little photo session.  Sometimes I take her out to a local park, other times just out in the backyard.  Either way, I like to put my DSLr camera to good use, and capture her at each age.  Part of the fun of these birthday photo sessions is playing into the theme of the birthday party we have chosen to celebrate that next year of life.  We’ve done butterflies, ladybugs, Minnie Mouse, Tinkerbell, FROZEN, and this year it’s Cinderella.  And, somehow the Disney princesses will make their way into her theme as well.

Back to school brings out the organizer in me.   Does it you?  It’s something about a “new year” that does it.  When I was teaching, I could NOT wait to start a fresh lesson plan book, a clean classroom, a schedule, and new pens.  And lists.  Lists of students, things to do, lessons to plan, the list goes on and on.  I just love the freshness of back to school.

Why You Need Disney’s Memorymaker on Your Next Trip

MemoryMaker

Disney’s Memorymaker has me totally hooked now.  You have no idea how hard it was for me to type that sentence!  Why?  Because I’m a picture snob.  I make sure every Disney vacation that I take hundreds of photos to keep those precious moments and memories forever.  I take a DSLr, my small point and shoot, and my phone on every trip. Yes, I love to take photos. Especially at Disney.  This past trip, I added Memorymaker to our Magic Your Way Package.

Easy LEGO Party Ideas

IMG_9034

Legos are still a hot toy in our house.  In fact, our boys are 12, and I often wonder if their love of Legos will extend into their adult lives.  We are talking about boys who go to the library, find the non-fiction section, and come out with “How to Build…… from Legos”.  They are entertained for hours in the basement on hot summer days, creating and building.  Hopefully all this building, creativity, and brick building will serve them well in their careers one day.

Easy to Pack Soccer Snacks

Sideline Hero

Our Saturdays are often spent on the soccer field.  Most weekends, it is an hour on a Saturday afternoon, enjoying the sun and watching our oldest play a game.  Now that the season is coming to a close, we are in the midst of soccer tournaments.  This means more hours on the soccer field, more prep for me the night before, and I feel like I need to have more options to keep him hydrated and fed between games.

Ten Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Next Family Photo Shoot

Ten Family Photo Shoot Tips

So I had this grand idea.  I asked my friend, who also has a small photography business, to set up an outdoor session for us this past fall.  I was SO excited!  I started pinning ideas to my Photo Ideas Pinterest Board, and envisioned a fantastic photo session where everyone cooperated, and my kids looked darling…..and yes, most of that happened.  But not without some planning, thinking, and a little bit of stressing out.  This was our first, of what will now be more, outdoor family shoots with a photographer.  All these years, we’ve sufficed our family photos with pics from vacations, at Christmas, and the occasional pose at Target while we were having the kids’ photos taken.  Why did I wait so long?   Our outdoor pics turned out great, and now I have some family photo tips to share with you!

DIY Owl Valentines Using Silhouette Glitter

Class Valentines Using Silhouette Glitter

Glitter.  It is my favorite thing to craft with~next to ribbon.  This year for my daughter’s homemade valentines, we made them extra sparkly with some Silhouette Glitter.  That stuff is SO.MUCH.FUN!  I am so addicted.  It’s projects like this that make me so thankful that I have a girl to glitz things up. So this year, we took the Owl Valentine idea I had last year, and made them a bit differently.  Despite the fact that I tried to sway her to bees, hearts, or butterflies,  she wanted owls again.  I tried and tried to show her images on Pinterest of butterflies, bees, and even cute hearts.  None of it.  She wanted owls again, so owls it is!

Bathroom Makeover with Cutting Edge Stencils and $50 Giveaway

Cutting edge

Go big or go home, that’s kind of the motto in our  house.   Along those same lines, we like to DIY on the cheap in our house.  We will often pick up “oops” paint colors at the home improvement store, and then making do with the left over colors from our other painting projects to make something amazing.  Well, our downstairs bathroom is no exception.  And with the help of Cutting Edge Stencils, we now have an impressive and beautifully accented wall in what was once our very plain downstairs bathroom.
