Subtle Patterned Letter with Mod Podge

Hi all! Rachel from Architecture of a Mom here with another frugal decor idea! And once again, I’m continuing to work on my letter wall, and I have to say that I’m most excited about this letter. I’m completely in love with the indigo color, and  this is a great and subtle way to add pattern to anything–and it’s super simple! Here’s what you need:

A wooden letter

flat craft paint

gloss mod podge

paint brushes

First, you need to paint your letter. It is very important that you select regular craft paint, with a flat finish. I did two coats, with my second coat’s brush strokes going perpindicular to my first coat.

Then, I selected my stencil. You can use any stencil, but I chose this new kind from Plaid/Mod Podge Rocks. The stencils in this line are generic geometric patterns, and they are self adhesive and are very flexible if you are working with a curved surface.

I pressed down pretty hard on the stencil to make sure I didn’t have any bleed-through.

And then I dabbed on the gloss Mod Podge.

Carefully remove your stencil while the Mod Podge is still wet.

If your letter is as large as mine was, you’ll have to wait until the Mod Podge is dry and then line up the stencil to create your repeat.

I just love how in low light the pattern almost vanishes, but in more light, as you move around the letter the reflection changes. It almost shimmers, but in a very subtle way. It’s going to look great with all the other letters that I’ve created to decorate my wall!

Thanks, Carrie for letting me share my monogram love with all your readers!

Ten Things I’m Always Glad I Pack for Disney World

Cinderella Castle

Packing for Walt Disney World is an ongoing event in our house.  About 6 weeks before we leave, I start “soft packing”.  I start picking up items at the store, make a rough list of items I don’t want to forget, and start setting it all aside in the designated corner of our bedroom.  And let’s face it, it allows me to make lists.  I don’t think I could survive without a list, and a packing list for Disney is one of my FAVORITE ones to make!  So let me share with you the Ten Things I’m Always Glad I Pack for Disney World.

Remember that huge assortment of Hershey’s Candy I received in the mail?  I had created some Peanut Butter Rolo Stuffed Cookies which were amazing…..but those Reese’s Cups eggs were just looking at me, begging me to eat them. So, being the responsible peanut butter and chocolate lover that I am, I did.  But not just out of the package-in the form of Reese’s Cups Mini Peanut Butter Cheeseballs.  And I was nice-I shared them with our Bible study and everyone loved them!

I have let our front door be bare long enough.  We had our Snowflake Christmas wreath up for the holidays, and then I just didn’t get around to making an “in between” wreath-like my Ribbon and Glitter Wreath-from last winter.  I think I hit a case of the winter blahs….I mean, when it’s 20 degrees outside {tops} for weeks upon weeks, I don’t feel like doing anything!  However, now that it is March, and spring is “right around the corner”….or so they say….the Silhouette Challenge for March was the perfect opportunity to freshen up the front door-with paper!  This month’s Silhouette Challenge is using paper.

Personalized Baby Name Tile

I’m all about personalized gifts.  Whether it’s with a monogram or the name of the recipient, I love adding that personal touch.  And that means I usually get to use my Silhouette Cameo :).  So, when my sister had my sweet little niece, I knew that for a shower gift, I’d be making he something personal, and something that will remind her of how much God loves her. Piggybacking on my Family Tile, I came up with this Baby Name Tile for her.  It’s so unique, fairly easy, and personal.
