Last week, I shared my easy Post it Note Mason Jar Gift Idea. My daughter is going to give this to her teacher as a Back to School gift next week, and it was so simple! I like for my children to arrive at school on the first day with a positive attitude, a love for their new teacher, and ready to start the year on a positive note. But, I don’t have a lot of time before school starts to make elaborate gifts. Nor do I have a ton of money to spend since I’m buying supplies, clothes, and shoes!
One of the things I like about back to school time is seeing all the cute pictures on Facebook. If you are like most parents, you are on the front porch, or in the yard at your typical photo spot, snapping away on the First Day of School. This year, we have a new twist to back to school in our house…..my daughter is starting Kindergarten. If this To My Fellow Moms on the First Day of Kindergarten doesn’t just make you cry like a baby….and speaking of a baby, I am sending my baby to Kindergarten……nothing will.
Legos are still a hot toy in our house. In fact, our boys are 12, and I often wonder if their love of Legos will extend into their adult lives. We are talking about boys who go to the library, find the non-fiction section, and come out with “How to Build…… from Legos”. They are entertained for hours in the basement on hot summer days, creating and building. Hopefully all this building, creativity, and brick building will serve them well in their careers one day.
Personalized Easter baskets are my favorite.thing.ever. Love them! I purposefully visit Target, the Dollar Tree, and other stores to find items that can be functional, unique, and personalized with vinyl. My Silhouette Cameo never lets me down-and these Personalized Easter Baskets are the perfect project for beginning Silhouette and vinyl users.
Glitter. It is my favorite thing to craft with~next to ribbon. This year for my daughter’s homemade valentines, we made them extra sparkly with some Silhouette Glitter. That stuff is SO.MUCH.FUN! I am so addicted. It’s projects like this that make me so thankful that I have a girl to glitz things up. So this year, we took the Owl Valentine idea I had last year, and made them a bit differently. Despite the fact that I tried to sway her to bees, hearts, or butterflies, she wanted owls again. I tried and tried to show her images on Pinterest of butterflies, bees, and even cute hearts. None of it. She wanted owls again, so owls it is!
Go big or go home, that’s kind of the motto in our house. Along those same lines, we like to DIY on the cheap in our house. We will often pick up “oops” paint colors at the home improvement store, and then making do with the left over colors from our other painting projects to make something amazing. Well, our downstairs bathroom is no exception. And with the help of Cutting Edge Stencils, we now have an impressive and beautifully accented wall in what was once our very plain downstairs bathroom.
I am so, so excited to start 2015 with an organizational post, AND the Silhouette Challenge! Last year, the Silhouette Challenges were so fun and inspirational! This year, we are doing something different~each month has a bonus challenge. For January, we started with the very popular topic of ORGANIZATION, and the bonus challenge to use VINYL! I jumped at the chance to add some fun labels to my daughter’s toy bins for this month’s challenge. Organize? YES! Use vinyl? YES, YES!
Every year at Christmas, our house gets a nice little makeover. We put up our gigantic tree in the living room, decked with white, red, and silver ornaments. Then the upstairs tree goes up, with all the kid ornaments, as well as the sentimental ones. The mantel is decked with the nativities, Christmas Village, and garland. And then there’s the front door. I LOVE making wreaths for our front door. But, I like them to last awhile. For Christmas, I tend to make a more “winter” wreath, and when I saw this snowflake made from popsicle sticks on Pinterest, I knew I had to try it! My Sparkling Snowflake Front Door Wreath turned out great!
Have you seen those super cute vinyled ornaments on Pinterest? I am sure you have~particularly if you are the proud owner of a Silhouette Cameo machine like I am! I had seen some pop up in my Pinterest feed, and I wondered if it was really as easy as cutting some vinyl and putting it on a glass ornament.
It’s Christmas! And that, to me, means a lot of things. Jesus’ birth, sharing the love of Christ with my family, decorating the tree, getting our house all cozy for Christmas morning…..and DIY Christmas gifts! Every Christmas, I have several parties to attend, and I like to bring a little something as a gift for the other ladies in attendance. Plus, I am sharing some extra Christmas love with you, along with my Silhouette Challenge friends with an awesome, spectacular giveaway! Keep reading!
