Hello all!  It’s Kelly from Here Comes the Sun. How is everyone doing? It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!  Well, not really where I live because we have no snow but it’s starting to FEEL a lot like Christmas.  I absolutely love this time of year. We got our tree up and the decorating is *almost* done. The kids have started to ask about Christmas tv specials and I’m making a mental list of all the cookies I want to bake.  I currently have a series on my blog right now called 25 Days to an Organized Christmas  with a great giveaway that I would love for you to visit and enter.

Homemade Ribbon Ruffle Ornament

Handmade Ribbon Ruffle Ornament #christmas #handmadeornament #christmascrafts

Homemade ornaments don’t just have to be yarn and popsicle sticks. Nor, do you need a lot of time to make one. With a few supplies from JoAnn’s, I was able to craft this pretty ornament in about half an hour on Sunday afternoon. I modeled it after the ribbon topiary I made for Natalie’s birthday cake table, and the Ribbon Ruffled Pumpkins I made for our fall decor.

Advent Star Christmas Countdown {Using the Trace Function on Your Silhouette}

Advent to Christmas Chalkboard Countdown

Creating a Advent Christmas Countdown is something our family really looks forward to.  We love to celebrate Advent, and really focus on the birth of Jesus and preparing our hearts for Christmas.  Even though the kids get those fun chocolate Advent calendars, I also wanted to create this easy Advent Star Christmas Countdown using DecoArt’s Multisurface paints, as well as my Silhouette Cameo.  So for this month’s Silhouette Challenge, I’m showing you how to use the trace function on your Silhouette Cameo.  Later this month, I’ll show you the full tutorial for this Advent to Christmas Star.  Today, we are going to focus on using the trace function with your Silhouette.

Thanksgiving: The Kids’ Table

3d turkey craft

I was thinking back on all the Thanksgivings we’ve spent as a family and I realized — we never do the same thing twice. We once spent a low-key Thanksgiving with just our two kids (way back when!), eating early so my husband could go to work. We’ve driven to California and spent Thanksgiving with 45 people at a small cabin in the desert. We’ve crashed other families’ Thanksgivings and eaten all their food. But I can tell you — if we’re spending Thanksgiving at someone else’s house, the one thing that will send me into their arms, weeping with gratitude, is discovering there are things for the kids to do.
